The ISU Recognizes Brandon Mroz Quad Lutz

Earlier today the International Skating Union (ISU) officially recognized the quad Lutz Brandon Mroz landed on September 16, 2011 during his free skate program at the Colorado Springs Invitational, a U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned event. Below is the statement from U.S. Figure Skating:

ISU CONFIRMS FIRST QUADRUPLE LUTZ

– Team USA member Brandon Mroz executed jump at Colorado Springs Invitational –

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 26, 2011) – The International Skating Union (ISU) today officially recognized and confirmed the first quadruple Lutz done in a sanctioned competition. On Sept. 16, 2011, Brandon Mroz (Broadmoor Skating Club) executed the jump during his short program at the 2011 Colorado Springs Invitational, a U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned competition.

Mroz, who placed second over the weekend at the 2012 Southwestern Regional Figure Skating Championships, is set to make his international season debut at NHK Trophy, Nov. 11-13 in Sapporo, Japan.

Mroz is the second American man to be recognized as the first to perform a quad jump in competition. Timothy Goebel is credited with the first quad Salchow, which he performed at the 1998 Junior Grand Prix Final.

For those of you wondering, the quad Lutz carries a value of 13.6.
