Patrick Chan of Canada earned gold after throwing down two quads in his free skate to top the men’s field. Daisuke Takahashi of Japan came from third after the short program to earn silver and American Ross Miner jumped three spots after the short program to earn bronze in his first appearance at a Four Continents Championships.
In the ladies event, Mao Asada of Japan fought through a mistake on her opening jump to post the top score while U.S. champion Ashley Wagner posted a personal best and is less than one-quarter of a point behind. Kanako Murakami of Japan received the highest element score of the competition and is less than one point behind Asada.
On Saturday, the ladies will perform their free skate at 7 p.m. MT while the pairs and dance competitions will each open at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. MT respectively.
