This weekend, three sectional championships will take place across the country; Eastern in Hyannis, Mass., Midwestern in Strongsville, Ohio, and Pacific Coast in Provo, Utah. The athletes at each event have already successfully made it to the second phase of the U.S. qualifying season, putting each competitor just two programs away from the 2013 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Omaha, Neb.

Each athlete will take the ice with the confidence of qualifying, knowing each skater earned the right to compete. The sectional championships culminate the efforts of a successful regional placement and years of hard work, all with the hopes of competing among the nation’s best at the U.S. Championships.

As the event unfolds, medals will be awarded and dreams will be realized as the top four skaters in each discipline advance to Omaha where they will compete with the faces seen on NBC and the smiles that cover SKATING Magazines. Athletes will represent their respective local clubs with the common goal of one day representing the United States as next year’s top performers head to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

More than a competition, the sectional championships are an important milestone in every skater’s career. Each performance marks the triumph of conquering a region and the challenge of breaking through to the national stage. This weekend, as the best from each region strive to complete their season-long voyage to Omaha, you can follow the action from home, sharing in the skaters’ successes as they celebrate how far they’ve come and how far they hope to go.
