Last week on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, viewers and skating fans alike were treated to an audition performance by Aerial Ice, a six-member ensemble of skaters who combine adagio, dance, theatre and circus aerial acts to create a truly unique experience for audience members. The group, which includes two-time U.S. ice dancing bronze medalists Kimberly Navarro and Brent Bommentre, will be featured again in this week’s episodes as they perform with the hopes of advancing to the show’s live rounds at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Skating on plastic ice to Krewella’s “Alive,” Aerial Ice received a unanimous “yes” from all four judges to move past the audition round to the next phase of the competition in Las Vegas, while the audience chanted “Vegas! Vegas! Vegas!” in support. Their performance, which featured head-banging tricks, overhead lifts and a center-ice aerial performance on two strips of silk, received a standing ovation before its conclusion, leading judge Heidi Klum to exclaim “It was nerve wracking, it was exciting, it was dangerous, it was spectacular. I loved it.”
If the troupe advances past Las Vegas this week, they will put their fate in the hands of the viewing audience as the show’s live rounds commence in New York City, all for a chance to win the $1 million grand prize.
